Bloggers Spread the Word About Jones County Sheriff’s Department

jonesNow that things have started to return to normal since our arrest in Jones County, Mississippi I wanted to take a moment to thank those that helped spread the word of our situation. In addition to those who we thanked already we’d like to thank those hundreds and thousands of miles away pushing the word out via the Internet and other mediums.

As I noted elsewhere, the outpouring of support that stemmed from a couple of “tweets” Jason was able to send out prior to our arrest was amazing. Not just for us, but for all those around the world advancing the freedom movement in their own way. It was a true testament of our community and of the support that exists for those willing to stand for their rights against those who seek to usurp them. Hopefully this incident will embolden others to stand for their rights (or at least consider donating a few bucks to the Civil Disobedience Evolution Fund in support of others).

While we were still held in a cage at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility, the word of the rights-violating behavior of Jones County Sheriff’s Department personnel and the responding Mississippi State K-9 officer was already being spread. I’m going to apologize now as I know I’ve overlooked some individuals and outlets that helped get the word out, but below is a quick recap of those that helped put the incident on people’s radars.

Perhaps the first to focus a spotlight on the incident was FreeKeene.com, which was soon linked to from many outlets including LewRockwell.com, the Libertarian Party of Colorado, Liberty Papers, NoState.com, DarianWorden.com, Blog of Bile, Disloyal Opposition, Rad Geek’s People’s Daily and the New Hampshire Free Press. Also, Reason’s Hit & Run and The Western Standard’s Shotgun blog shared the story with their readers. After we were sprung I learned that my folks had been tracking our status thanks to all of these outlets, so for the peace of mind y’all gave them, I thank you.

Other outlets to spread the word soon after the arrest include Chris Moody, The Superfluous Man, the Washington City Paper, Bureaucrash, FreeColorado.com and Reflections from a Rotting Nation and once we were free we were fortunate to share details of the incident on Free Talk Live.

Soon after our release, Charlotte Graham of the Laurel Leader-Call brought the incident to the attention of Jones County in her article Civil Rights Violation? which also included some quotes from Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge. Quotes that the Grumbling Old Fart did an excellent job disseting point-by-point. Radley Balko over at The Agitator also helped update folks of Sheriff’s Hodges statements.

A lot of thanks also goes to our bud and fellow freedom fighter Austin Peterson at the Libertarian Party for helping to get us on Judge Napolitano’s Freedom Watch on Fox, which the Laurel Leader-Call, among others, picked up the next day.

And today, Peter Orvetti posted a recap of events in a post entitled “Mississippi spurning” over at Liberty For All.

As is clear the work done by these countless individuals typing away at their keyboards has been instrumental to help shine the light of accountability on the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. Keep it up!
