Border Causes Motorhome Diaries Crew to Split

Ryan leaving MARV thanks to arbitrary political boundaries

Ryan leaving MARV thanks to arbitrary political boundaries

NANUET, NY – Yesterday after a quick workout and a conversation over coffee with some of the awesome folks at the Foundation for Economic Education, I jumped in MARV with the rest of the MHD crew and drove to Nanuet, NY. There, Jason and I parted ways with Ryan, as he’ll be unable to accompany us for our jaunt into Canada because he doesn’t have government permission (aka a passport). So, for the next 10 days the MHD crew will be split-up, with Ryan on the south side of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario while Jason and I are on their north sides.

On an earlier post Ryan solicited help getting from the drop-off point – then thought to be somewhere in VT – to Vermilion, OH, where someone generously offered us the use of their beach house for a couple of days. But Ryan won’t be taking a break from MHD. Along with a sleeping bag, a copy of Larry Reed’s Striking the Root and David Beito’s The Voluntary City and some other items, he’s is also carrying two digital cameras that also record video, and he plans to do at least three stories as he travels, including one of a group of libertarians living in a co-op in Rochester, NY with whom he’ll stay for a night or two and another of Greg (aka RushFan) who is carting him one leg of the journey near Cleveland.

To underscore the ridiculousness that is the reason for our split – arbitrary political boundaries – I’ll leave you with a quote to chew on:

When goods don’t cross borders, soldiers will.
