I made the most amazing cookies for my friend’s birthday.
Normally, I’d much prefer a nice slice of pie, or some ice cream, over a cookie. However, this recipe is awesome!
Soft, chewy, and very flavorful, I highly recomend this recipe. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Molasses-Sugar-Cookies-2/Detail.aspx Today is the 4th of July, the date when The USA signed the Declaration of Independence from Britain. Fast-forward a couple hundred years, and this day has come to be symbolic of all things free. In today’s society, where we seem in constant danger of losing our own personal freedoms, this seems an especially important message. Think about it…from huge programs such as the Patriot Act to little-known lobby-funded bills (such as Monsanto’s – an incredibly powerful pesticide and GMO foods company) that are being pushed through congress – which would effectively outlaw organic farming. For more information on Monsanto go to: http://www.organicconsumers.org/monlink.cfm. When I looked up Independence day on Wikipedia, this is what I got: “Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, political speeches and ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States”.
Tonight, I, along with the rest of the dorm students are going on a required trip to baseball game; after which we will watch fireworks. All these are nice – after all, holiday’s ought to be enjoyed; I only wish that more thought was put into their real significance.
Today is Memorial Day, the day for all of our soldiers who died in the hands of war. I don’t understand why the most common sentiment today seems to be, “Happy Memorial Day, are you going to have a cookout?”. Shouldn’t today be a day of reflection, thought, and remembrance? Beneath is a video, which I think could be looked at as a more apt tribute to those lost. the video below dosen’t have the best sound or video quality, so here’s a link to one with better quality if you’d prefer: http://www.imeem.com/eliteb/video/fXgh6lWv/my-chemical-romance-the-ghost-of-you-music-video/ |
