The Non-sequitur of the Week Award goes to David Sirota!

BlueCarp presents David Sirota with the “Non-sequitur of the Week” award!

In his Denver Post column today, Sirota says “we’ve imported imported the developing world’s lax regulatory standards and, thus, its lower product quality.”

Uh… what?

More government regulation equals higher product quality? With this entry in the non-sequitur competition, Sirota places himself in serious competition for the Non-sequitur of the Year award. Congratulations!

Sirota is certainly devout in his worship of the state and his belief there is no problem the government can not solve. For some reason, however, he believes that the individuals that comprise the body of government regulators is somehow more virtuous than the individuals that comprise the body of manufacturers.

Detroit Considers Privatization

The city of Detroit is broke like many other cities. However, they are facing the real possibility of running out of cash… next month! According to MLive.com:
In his speech tonight, Bing is expected to propose privatizing the city’s public bus system and lighting departments, both of which have have been failing residents but reportedly cost [...]

More government waste.

Denver plan to reroute Wash Park running path irks neighbors.” This plan would move a perfectly good path at the cost of $320,000 to the city.  It is not hard to believe the city is facing a budget deficit with plans like this.

The fiscally responsible thing to do is to scrap this plan.

Solving the Civil Union issue.

Get the government out of the marriage business altogether. As a Christian, I find it offensive that a marrage – a holy bond between a man and a woman, before God and performed in a holy place by a holy man – is not official until a low level government clerk grants the state’s approval. That is blasphemous.

It’s a big dose of something, all right.

According to the Denver Post, Scientology played a role in a recent murder at a Denver area software company. (See Division at software company over Scientology apparent before 2009 shooting.)

One of the employees of the company, a Scientologist, said
A beginning Scientologist like herself could never comprehend the writings. “Cause it’s hard on them,” Jan Fowler said. “. . . that’s why it’s confidential. Not from commercial reasons. Not because it is hurtful. . . . it’s big dose for somebody who’s not ready for it.”

I imagine so. How can one prepare oneself for the knowledge that Xenu, the dictator of the Galactic Confederacy, come to earth 75 million years in a spacecraft with billions of people, then stacked them around volcanoes and killed them with hydrogen bombs, and that the essence of these people remain, causing us spiritual harm.
I know I’m not ready for that.
