At the Liberty on the Rocks Christmas party – that’s where! So mark your calendars for another great event at CADA, where you can celebrate freedom while enjoying great food, conversation and time with your friends. And who can forget the chance to talk politics *and* sing karaoke?

We will have secret Santa gift giving – where anyone bringing a gift will get one in return! In addition to great food, karaoke, a cash bar and plenty of others to mingle with. There will also be cake to celebrate the upcoming third anniversary of Liberty on the Rocks.

Support Free Market Education

All proceeds go to support the Liberty on the Rocks Free Market Education Project, which aims to distribute free market literature and information to hundreds of people across the country through local networks. Materials to be dispersed include: brochures and fliers from think tanks and organizations throughout the nation; copies of The Great Myths of the Great Depression by Larry Reed; copies of The Rise of Government and the Decline of Morality by James Dorn of the Cato Institute; Ayn Rand samplers; and copies of The Law by Frederic Bastiat.

More about Mr. Ingemarson:

Anders Ingemarson is American by choice. He immigrated to the United States from Europe in 1994 and became an American citizen in 2002.

Anders has been an information technology specialist for the past 10 years. As a citizen activist, Anders is a staunch champion of liberty, individual rights and Capitalism. He is a graduate of the Leadership Program of the Rockies, a member the Colorado Front Range Objectivist community and a supporter of the Ayn Rand Institute.

As a speaker, Anders applies the principles of liberty, individual rights, and Capitalism to a wide range of subjects such as education, foreign policy, American Exceptionalism, and immigration, while drawing on his international background to provide insights into the differences between European and American thinking.

Anders received his BA in Finance, Economics and Management from Stockholm School of Economics, and an M Ed in Montessori Education from Loyola College in Maryland.

About Rich Mitchell:

Rich Mitchell designed the PIER Institute’s development model, created the Institute, and leads their policy and research initiatives. He has significant experience in international relief work, participating in relief and development projects in countries as diverse as Colombia and post-tsunami Sri Lanka. As a business attorney, he has more than 13 years experience in corporate, securities and nonprofit law representing start-up enterprises as well as international companies. In 2003, he spent six months in Costa Rica studying Spanish and interned at a Costa Rican law office. He has also taught more than 25 college courses including the subjects of International Business and U.S. Business Law. Mr. Mitchell received his Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law.

Mr. Friedman was a free market economist, statistician, author and Nobel Prize winner for his work with economics. He spent much of his life spreading the message of not only free markets, but liberty and freedom, across the globe.

To celebrate the life and work of this phenomenal man, Liberty on the Rocks will host a night of remembrance, complete with a short video of Mr. Friedman discussing many different aspects of liberty and free markets, which will include a message from Mr. Jon Caldara of the Independence Institute. So join us as we raise our glass to Milton Friedman and his legacy!

Don’t know much about Mr. Friedman? All the more reason for you to attend! Check out this great Youtube video of him on Phil Donahue’s show in 1979. Poor Phil didn’t stand a chance against him ; )

Change of Plans – In Lieu of a Mock Debate we will host a Discussion Activity from 6-7 PM TONIGHT!

There are so many issues to consider when it comes to liberty and free markets…. How do we know what to think about every topic out there?

You CAN feel comfortable discussing just about every liberty-oriented topic there is, but it takes practice. So grab a beer, come on out to happy hour, and join us as we organize our first discussion activity. The purpose is to get us talking to each other about our viewpoints on different topics, so we may become better aware of what we believe and why, and what we have no opinion on (yet!). There is no doubt about it – this will be the most fun you’ve ever had while learning at the same time!

What is LOTR?

Liberty on the Rocks is THE place to meet others interested in free market and/or liberty-oriented principles. It is also the happy hour for you if you’re interested in getting better informed or involved in the liberty movement.

LOTR Denver is proud to promote free market and/or liberty-based institutions and groups, both local and across the country. Diana Hsieh is a young philosopher who specializes in practical ethics. She received her Ph.D in philosophy from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2009. She is a prolific writer and dedicated educator. She hosts a blog called NoodleFood and also conducts podcasts, including one solely dedicated to exploring Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. If you want to know more about Objectivism, Atlas Shrugged, or Ayn Rand in general, Diana is the one to ask!

In addition to our pre-happy hour mock debate (see below), we will also be hosting a 20-minute open mic night where we will give participants 2 minutes to get in front of the mic to talk about anything liberty related – whether it’s a joke, a short story, or an idea for promoting liberty – anyone is welcome to come up and share!

This week’s mock debate will surround the important topic of free trade. Participants will be asked: Should Government Regulate Free Trade? We will also start the night out with a mock debate from 6-7 PM – for those of us who aren’t ready to debate in public (like our stars David and Kelly), this is the way to prepare! Debate amongst friends, over beers and with an audience to throw in tips and strategies. What better way to train as a Defender of Liberty than at the bar with friends?!

Anyone is welcome to join in the mock debate. We are looking for volunteers to be debaters, judges and members of the audience.
